Peshawar, July 16, 2025 — A major financial scandal has erupted within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as serious allegations of embezzlement have surfaced concerning funds allocated for bail bonds of jailed PTI workers. According to verified sources within the PTI leadership, up to Rs. 260 million (26 crore) were disbursed for this purpose — a figure officially acknowledged by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and legal representatives.
The funds, reportedly sourced from CM Gandapur’s “personal resources,” were distributed among a select group of lawyers and law officers, including Advocate Mashal Yousafzai, Advocate Ali Zaman, Advocate Fatehullah Barki, and other officials linked to the KP government.
However, mounting complaints from party workers and independent lawyers suggest that a significant portion of these funds was misappropriated. While hundreds of workers arranged their own bail, many allege that the allocated funds were diverted for personal enrichment by those entrusted with the money.
Sources claim that key individuals involved in handling the funds have dramatically upgraded their lifestyles in recent months. Advocate Ali Zaman is reported to have purchased a new Toyota Revo, while others, including Mashal Yousafzai and Fatehullah Barki, allegedly acquired the latest iPhone 16 models and other luxury items.
Internal conflict within the legal team has now spilled into the public domain. Incriminating tweets and posts exchanged between Mashal Yousafzai, Fatehullah Barki, and Sher Afzal Marwat include accusations of mutual financial misconduct and blame-shifting over fund mismanagement.
In a recent development, Assistant Advocate General Samiullah was dismissed by CM Gandapur amid accusations of corruption in the bail bond funds — a move seen by many as a reluctant acknowledgment of wrongdoing within PTI’s own legal and administrative ranks.
Party insiders are calling for a thorough internal audit and an independent inquiry to investigate the allegations. The episode comes as a major blow to PTI’s efforts to maintain a clean image during a period of unprecedented political repression and mass detentions.
Despite the severity of the claims, no official inquiry or disciplinary action has yet been launched against the key lawyers involved, other than Samiullah’s removal. Observers say the scandal could widen internal fault lines within PTI and undermine its credibility among its base of loyal supporters.
