Mr. President, the World Is Watching

For over two years, Imran Khan—Pakistan’s most popular leader and a global icon for democracy—has languished in solitary confinement in Adiala Jail. His only crime? Daring to champion the hopes and dreams of 250 million Pakistanis for a free, democratic future. Today, his health is failing. His life is in danger. And the future of Pakistan, a nuclear-armed nation in a volatile region, hangs in the balance.

Mr. President, you have promised to stand with those who fight for freedom and democracy. The Pakistani-American community—over a million strong—has been a loyal, productive, and passionate supporter of your vision. Now, we ask you to keep your promise: Use your unique influence to demand the immediate release and safety of Imran Khan.

A Historic Moment Demands Decisive Action

For 78 years, U.S. administrations have too often sided with Pakistan’s military rulers, ignoring the democratic aspirations of its people. But times have changed. Pakistani-Americans are now a powerful voice in the United States, relentlessly advocating for civilian supremacy, the rule of law, and the end of military dictatorship in our homeland.

Your administration has the leverage. Your leadership can make the difference. My recent meetings in Washington with your representatives confirmed what we already know: Imran Khan’s release is not only a matter of justice, but a prerequisite for regional stability and global peace.

The Mandela Parallel—and the Danger of Silence

Like Nelson Mandela before him, Imran Khan is a prisoner of conscience, held by an unaccountable regime desperate to cling to power. If he dies in prison, Pakistan risks plunging into chaos—fueling extremism, instability, and the threat of nuclear conflict.

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s unelected military ruler, seeks legitimacy in Washington. But he cannot build a partnership with the United States while holding the country’s true leader in a 6×8 foot “death cell.” Only you, Mr. President, have the credibility and authority to make it clear: No more business as usual. Free Imran Khan.

A Legacy of Peace and Freedom

Imran Khan has the vision, courage, and popular mandate to lead Pakistan toward reconciliation, democracy, and peace with its neighbors. He has built bridges with your supporters—Ambassador Grenell, Congressmen Wilson, McCormack, Bergman—and, more importantly, with millions of Americans who cherish freedom.

By securing his release, you can” defuse a nuclear powder keg, restore hope to millions, and set the stage for a new era of U.S.-Pakistan partnership. This is your moment to keep your promise to democracy and freedom.

The Time to Act Is Now

Mr. President, we urge you:

Keep your promise. Free Imran Khan.

Do not let history remember this moment as one of silence and missed opportunity. Let it remember you as the leader who stood up for democracy, saved a life, and changed the course of a nation.

With great respect,

Salman Ahmad
On behalf of the Pakistani-American community
